Twin Delays Algorithm

The Twin Delays Algorithm can be used to create classic doubling effects, ping-pong delays, as well as unique cavernous echoes, simply by adjusting the feedback and panning controls and filters.

Create one-of-a-kind delay sounds with a unique cross-feedback design for richer and more complex echo patterns.

With a tempo lock, you can now create many synced rhythmic delays not available on the original hardware.

The true power comes into play when using Twin Delays in Dual Engine mode, where some unique cascaded delays set back by diffused reverbs can be easily created and recalled as instant effect chains.

The Twin Delays Algorithm Sound

The Twin Delays algorithm has four delay lines, each with its own level, feedback and delay time.

Feedback can be positive or negative.

The feedback for Delays 1 (L) and 2 (R) is preceded by a low pass filter on each line. Low-pass filters on the delay lines result in a sound which loses high-frequency content each time it is fedback into the system.

This creates the impression that the delay reseeds further back into the speakers with each repetition in a similar way to how echoes in real spaces would.

The feedback for Delays 3 (L) and 4 (R) is cross–panned.

Cross-panning helps to balance the stereo-image and keeps the center of the stereo-image feeling stable. With certain timings, cross-panning can also be used to create a rhythmical “ping-pong” effect.

Plus, there is a pan control for both Delays 1 and 3 (L) and Delays 2 and 4 (R) (both post feedback and filter).

The delays go up to 1.5 seconds, and the filters work from full bandwidth down to 120Hz.

Key Parameters

Here are a few of the more significant parameters you can use to get the most out of the Twin Delays algorithm.

  • Delay Multiplier
  • Left Delay 3
  • Right Delay 4

The Twin Delays Algorithm Block Diagram

The following block diagram flowchart is a graphical representation of the steps of the Twin Delays algorithm. This makes it easier to understand the logic and flow of the algorithm and its parameters.

The Twin Delays Algorithm Available Parameters

The following tables lay out all the editable parameters available in the Twin Delays algorithm, in both the Hardware Mode and Advanced Mode.

  • Hardware Mode is an authentic reproduction of the original LARC workflow.
  • Advanced Mode gives you a more interactive visual interface, as well as access to additional parameters and functionality. Any additional functionality not available in the original hardware has been highlighted.
